New season, new race cars from Porsche AG

We’re already crazy Porsche fans here at RedlineNorth, so pretty much anything Porsche related gets us pumped up. However, this new promo video from the Porsche AG marketing department will make any racing fan warm and fuzzy on a cold winter day. Kudos to Porsche for hitting the mark with their 2016 racing season preview video.

Crazy Rich Guy Skeet Shoots From Porsche 911 Targa

We have to thank the gang over at Jalopnik for finding this one.  Not sure whether to love or hate the guy so I will let you decide but it’s unique nonetheless. I never would have thought skeet shooting and Porsche 911 Targa would be in the same sentence but alas it is here.

Video of Porsche 918 Spyder Assembly Line

We are a little late to get this on this year’s Christmas list but there is always next year. The Porsche 918 Spyder truly is the ultimate sports car available today.  Yes, I know it’s not for everybody as it comes with a starting price of US$845,000 but that’s the point its aspirational.  You know you’ve made it to the top when you roll out of the dealership in one of these….Check out Car and Driver’s new in-depth video which shows how this hybrid bad-boy supercar is hand assembled.

2014 Porsche 911 GT3 Review

Brian Makse from Autonet has just published his review of the 2014 Porsche 911 GT3. The Porsche 911 GT3 is the ultimate enthusiast car as it is stripped down, powered up and race prepped for the track. The folks who ordered these cars have waited a while for delivery as a result of a major manufacture engine issue.  As a result, anticipation has been immense since everyone has been very curious to see what the final product would be on the track.  Well, good news Porsche has fixed the engine issue and the models are now being delivered to buyers.  And judging from Brian’s review and video this new Porsche does not disappoint and is 100% worth the wait.  We so wish we were behind the wheel of this beast on the German test track as you could not ask for more fun.  Some guys really do have all the luck!

Porsche 914-6

Petrolicious recently released a new video exploring the Porsche 914-6.  The Porsche 914 was released in 1969 and was a collaborative effort between Porsche and Volkswagen. The vehicle had seating for two and featured a 4-cylinder boxer engine provided the power, while the 914-6 had more power with the six cylinder, 911 engine. In Europe the 914s were badged as Volkswagen/Porsche, while all 914’s sold in were sold under the Porsche brand. Jack Griffin, who is profiled in the Petrolicious video, has an interesting story about his experience with the 914 and has owned his 914-6 for over 38 years.

Porsche Macan

At this week’s 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show one of the models making a big splash is Porsche’s all-new 2015 Macan crossover.  Marketed as Porsche’s new entry-level compact crossover with all the comforts of its Cayenne but with a lower starting price. Designed for the soccer mom’s tasks during the week while also providing owners with a solid weekend track day partner.  It all sounds pretty good eh?  We sure think so, and it does not hurt their pitch person is the “out of this world” Russian tennis superstar Maria Sharapova.

Set to go on sale in the first half of next year, the Macan will be available in both an S and Turbo trim levels.  Prices will start at $49,900 but as is often the case with luxury rides the price ranges dramatically as you choose various options making the total price sky rocket. For example, decide on a Macan Turbo and you’re looking at a base price of in the $72,000 range.  Nevertheless, Porsche has kindly provided all its pricing information through its very cool new online configurator.

As for the name, according to the UK’s Car Magazine Porsche continues to leverage its wild naming convention as the name Macan “is derived from the Indonesian word for tiger and combines suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics” – core characteristics of the new off-road car.  Well, not sure I love the name but I do eagerly await getting behind the wheel of the Macan for a test drive at some point in the near future.

Rally for the Cure 2013

On Sunday, August 18th, Team RedlineNorth participated for the 2nd year in a row in the Ewing’s Cancer Foundation of Canada Rally for the Cure. Having had such an incredible time at last year’s event we were eager to take part once again. And the weather gods were certainly on our side as you could not have asked for a better day as the sun shined!

The Rally for the Cure is a unique charity event that incorporates both autos and planes in a truly one-of-a-kind experience.  The event is comprised of a treasure hunt theme rally, delicious BBQ, silent auction, and variety of musical performances all in an amazing festive atmosphere at Markham’s Buttonville airport.

Although, Team RedlineNorth came up short only placing 8th compared to last year’s 2nd place, the event was a ton of fun and is truly a rewarding experience. We were successful in getting a few other teams out with us, of whom placed 5th and 9th respectively, and we hope to bring even more teams to next year’s event.

The Rally for the Cure event is not only fun for the car and plane enthusiast but is something the whole family can do so please be sure to mark the 2014 date (Sunday, September 14th) in your calendars as there is no better way to spend a Sunday.

Yorkville Exotic Car Show

What better way to spend Father’s Day than a hit up a charity car show in the heart of Toronto’s tony Bloor/Yorkville area.  Sponsored by Porsche, McLaren Toronto and Prostate Cancer Canada, the one day, Yorkville Exotic Car show charity event raises  funds for cancer research. In spite of some rain earlier in the day, the event was well attended with solid crowds coming out to see these exotic autos. We too, had a great time checking out all the cars and even bumped into the Globe and Mail’s Drive Editor, Peter Cheney who is always up for a in-depth chat about autos. Peter had his amazing Lotus Evora parked on display along with other Lotus models.  There was a plethora of cars from all eras including; classic hot rods to Corvettes, Ferrari’s Lamborghini’s, BMW’s, Maserati’s, Aston Martin’s, Bentley’s, Mercedes’ and of course Porsche’s.

This year was the 2nd year for the MegaSpeed Show and they came to play with a strong list of big name guests and legendary car personalities including; American Graffiti stars, Chip Foose, Ken Block and Formula Drift pilot Chris Forsberg. It’s no easy feat putting on a huge car show when the weather is essentially still cold and wintry. Hence, the show is held indoors in the sprawling complex made up of close to 500,000 sq. ft of exhibit space. The event draws a broad range of auto enthusiasts and provides something for everyone since the show cars span from all genres and eras of enthusiast styling.  Check out a glimpse of what the show offered and make sure you add it to your Spring calendar next year.
