Dodge Challenger Hellcats Leave Brampton for Dealers

Dodge has released this very cool video showing the first batch of the fire-breathing 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT® Hellcats being loaded up at Fiat-Chrysler’s Brampton, Ontario assembly plant.  With a sticker price of only $63,995 CDN the Hellcat is amazingly priced considering it comes with a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® SRT V8 engine, producing an unprecedented 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque making it the most powerful Dodge V8 and Challenger model ever.

As one of the most talked about cars of the year it’s no surprise the car racked up more than 4,500 orders in just the five days after orders opened in September.

After watching this video I totally want one!

And yes that is Mötley Crüe’s “Kickstart My Heart” banging in the background.

Taylor Swift Smashes an AC Cobra with a Golf Club in New Blank Space Video

Taylor Swift is not someone we tend to follow with any sort of interest but the 24-year old American superstar has just launched a new video for her Blank Space single and cars play a huge role.

In the pop idol’s new video, Taylor plays a severely hot-headed girlfriend with revenge on her mind as she runs around ruining a beautiful AC Cobra with a golf club.  Similar to many jilted lovers of the past, Taylor rages after seeing her boyfriend texting another women and the boyfriend’s classic Cobra takes the brunt of the jealousy. If you can’t stomach the entire video just click on 3:15 to get to the the car destruction.

Moral of this story – When your boyfriend cheats, you can do whatever you want to him, but please don’t touch his car especially if it is a classic!  The only good news is we are sure it is a replica since they always are but still the director should have used something less iconic.

New stricter rules coming to Ontario for distracted driving

Lots of buzz today across Ontario as Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca announced a new distracted driving bill in the legislature that will see stiffer penalties and increased fines. The new bill comes with real teeth as its proposing an increase from the current $60 to $500 fine range to between $300 and $1,000 along with the major step of introducing demerit points. Currently, no points are accumulated for using a mobile device while driving.

The new legislation comes as distracted driving rises above impaired driving and speeding as the leading cause of death on the roads. Ontario Provincial Police said there were 78 distracted driving deaths last year compared to 57 for impaired 44 for speeding.

You only have to drive around town to see these stats for yourself as it’s all quite shocking really when you think about it. This whole distracted device issue is only about 10 years old and just think it is one more reason for the increase in momentum of the self driving car.

GoPro shares tank after journalist links camera to Michael Schumacher’s accident

There has been lots of buzz this week surrounding Michael Schumacher and this newly suggested idea that the GoPro camera he was using may have been part of the “problem” and may have worsened his head injuries. The sheer scale of this speculation is massive and the resulting press articles have sent shares of GoPro, lower this week.

Time will tell what happens with this one as we are sure there will be more to come here.

Seven-time F1 champion Schumacher suffered severe head injuries in a skiing accident in the French Alps last December. He emerged from a medically induced coma in June and returned home after being discharged from hospital in September.

2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport Review

Vsport_09

The Cadillac CTS Vsport edition is the top of the line CTS model and boasts a number of added features to the already impressive sport sedan which won Motortrend’s car of the year in 2014.  RedlineNorth recently took the CTS Vsport through its paces and we were seriously impressed with the experience.  Our test vehicle was a 2014 CTS 3.6L Vsport premium sedan.  The base price of the vehicle is $74,49 and with options the total price including destination charge, excluding taxes is $79,580 CAD.

The exterior styling of the CTS is a refreshing departure for Cadillac.  Stand out features of the CTS styling are the inlaid hood, more aggressively angled front windshield and the inlaid rear spoiler. In addition, the active aero grille shutters not only add to the styling, but automatically close to maximize aerodynamics when additional engine cooling is not required.  The most noticeable exterior difference to the CTS in the Vsport edition is the Vsport badge on the rear trunk. This little moniker tells you that you have something special under the hood.

Vsport_19

The 3.6L Twin Turbo V6 with an 8 speed transmission rockets the CTS to 96 km/h in 4.4 seconds.  Needless to say, acceleration is extraordinary making the car so much fun to drive.  Controlling all this power is an electronic Limited-Slip Differential (eLSD) that optimizes the torque split between the rear wheels.  This provides enhanced stability and traction control through the corners as well as offering a more precise steering experience. We were impressed with the overall responsiveness of the vehicle. With all the power available in the Vsport edition, the Brembo brakes with 345.4 mm front rotors and available high-performance brake linings are a welcome inclusion and offers an excellent feel when stopping.

Vsport_01

The interior of the CTS Vsport is well refined with lots of soft touch surfaces, 20 way adjustable seats, ambient lighting and a wealth of technology.  The vehicle utilizes a heads up display projected onto the front windscreen.  Drivers can customize the information shown to them including speed, RPM, current music selection, etc…  Even in bright sunlight the display is crisp and clear.  Once we started using it the display became invaluable while driving, allowing us to concentrate on the road and not the dashboard. The CTS Vsport has good all round visibility and offers a cabin that is remarkably quiet despite the monster under the hood.

Vsport_29

The integration of technology into the CTS extends to the front instrument panel which is a completely digital, configurable display.  It does take a little bit of getting use to staring at a screen, but after a while it becomes natural.  Shown below on the dash is the ability of the driver to choose from four driving modes Tour, Sport, Track as well as Snow and Ice.  Each mode adjusts the driving experience including steering and magnetic drive control.  For everyday driving we found the Sport mode provided a good all round experience.

Vsport_31

Another quality feature of the CTS is the ability to deploy a rear window sun shade at the touch of a button, this coupled with the keyless access which recognizes your key fob and automatically locks or unlocks the doors depending on if you are coming or going, are examples of features added by the engineers and designers that remind the driver you are driving a Cadillac.  Additional “nice to have” features are the parallel parking assist, heated rear seats, illuminated front sill plates and what Cadillac calls their Ultraview sunroof.  All told, Cadillac has provided a well rounded package in the CTS Vsport.

Vsport_22

Historically, there has been a perceived status benefit to owning a foreign made vehicle in the luxury segment, however, we think Cadillac has a winner here with the CTS Vsport edition that can break this perception. The combination of the interior cabin refinement, advanced technology integration and overall performance make the CTS Vsport a great option in the luxury performance sedan segment. Those features coupled with the fact it is just so much fun to drive make it a compelling option for target buyers.  Nevertheless, the CTS Vsport is up against some stiff competition in this segment, including the Audi A6, Mercedes Benz E class, BMW 5 series and the Jaguar XF. However, at the end of the day we feel it holds its own against the competition from across the Atlantic.

Z Fest 2014

On a glorious Sunday in August, Team RedlineNorth headed to a very unique car show we never have actually attended before in person. This year’s Z Fest event took place at the Canadian Heritage War Museum located beside Hamilton’s International Airport which played the part of an excellent backdrop. Since after walking through the hangar filled with some of the most famous warplanes ever built you soon entered rows and rows of restored Nissans parked and shining on the tarmac.

Organized by members of the Ontario Z-Cars Association, Z Fest is an annual event here in Ontario for Z model Nissan enthusiasts to show off  their Nissan and Datsun vehicles. The event’s aim is to celebrate all Z-cars from the early Datsun models through to the current Nissan name plates and this year’s event did not disappoint. This year’s event was slightly larger than in years past since it was the 20th annual Z-Fest. While on site there was a whole array of Z-cars (Fairlady Z in Japan) from present to past including the 240z, 260z, 280zx, 300zx, the 350z, and 370z not excluding the odd G series, GTR, and Skyline.

We were lucky enough to bump into one of our local correspondents who actually covered the 2012 Z Fest event for RedlineNorth. Unfortunately for us he was not reporting from the event this year since he had his “pride and joy” entered in the show and shine. He currently owns a stunningly clean but heavily modified 1990 300 ZX Twin Turbo which is pushing over 400 HP at the wheels.

Moparfest 2014

Back in 2012, we had a great time at Southwestern Ontario’s Moparfest so we made the trek once again this past August.  With over 1600 show vehicles and over 20,000 spectators at this year’s event, Moparfest continues to be Canada’s largest all Mopar show and is a must see for any Mopar enthusiast. Started 34 years ago by a few friends with a shared love of Mopar cars the show has grown into a massive charity event that takes over the town of New Hamburg, Ontario for one weekend in August.  The annual three-day event is a fundraiser for the local community with proceeds totaling over $2.76 million dollars from the past 34 years.

Here are some amazing new and old examples of Mopar muscle and design in all their automotive glory.

In spite of some heavy rain on the Saturday we had a great time at Moparfest and we will be sure to come back once again. Selfishly, we were disappointed there were not more Dodge Ramchargers. In 2012, there were more of these beauties at the show. At some point, Team RedlineNorth is going to add one of these beasts to the fleet so we are always on the lookout for this iconic full size SUV.

Lamborghini Huracán

The Lamborghini Huracán is Lamborghini’s new replacement for its sales leader and most produced car, the Gallardo.  With more than 14,000 copies of the Gallardo sold over two generations the Huracán certainly has big shoes to fill.

The all new Huracán picks up where the Gallardo left off. Like its predecessor, the Huracán has a mid-mounted, naturally aspirated, 5.2-liter V-10 engine. This direct-injected power plant pumps 610 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels via a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission. The new Huracán has a ton of shared technology with Audi’s next generation R8 due to Volkswagen Group’s ownership of Lamborghini.

Capable of zero to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds, and zero to 124 mph (200 kph) in 9.9 seconds with a top speed of approx 201 mph the Huracán is a true super car. Its blistering speeds are a result of the unbelievable horsepower to weight ratio of 2.36 kg (5.20 lb) per horsepower.  With a curb weight of only 1,422 kg (3,135 lb), the car’s chassis is made of carbon fiber and aluminium, destined to please the speed demons.

Having been recently released, the Huracán is now making the rounds to the world’s top tier auto journalists. One of these first reviews comes from the UK’s Autocar who took the Huracán for a spin on the UK roads along with their favourite test track.  Make sure you turn the volume up to take in the sensory experience of what it is like to drive a Lambo.  We have to agree with the video reviewer as it really is one of the prettiest Lambo designed in the last 25 years. Bravo Lamborghini or should I say Audi AG!

2014 Porsche 911 GT3 Review

Brian Makse from Autonet has just published his review of the 2014 Porsche 911 GT3. The Porsche 911 GT3 is the ultimate enthusiast car as it is stripped down, powered up and race prepped for the track. The folks who ordered these cars have waited a while for delivery as a result of a major manufacture engine issue.  As a result, anticipation has been immense since everyone has been very curious to see what the final product would be on the track.  Well, good news Porsche has fixed the engine issue and the models are now being delivered to buyers.  And judging from Brian’s review and video this new Porsche does not disappoint and is 100% worth the wait.  We so wish we were behind the wheel of this beast on the German test track as you could not ask for more fun.  Some guys really do have all the luck!

The boys at Evo take a Ferrari F40 through the Swiss Alps

Having written about the infamous Ferrari F40 several times as it’s one of our all time favourite cars we could not pass on this story.  Recently, UK-based supercar reviewers Evo got behind the wheel of a beautiful Ferrari F40 for a 1000 KM drive. Starting in Zürich, Switzerland and finishing back in Britain  they were tasked with driving this supercar darling back to its wealthy English owner.  After filming themselves drive this masterpiece on some of the World’s best mountain roads it’s no wonder the average car guy/gal envies these car journalists more than life itself. Not surprisingly, getting behind the wheel of a Ferrari F40 is certainly near the top of most car folks’ bucket list.  Our only complaint about the video is they do a tad more talking than we would have liked.
