Awesome funny Holden videos from Aussies living in the US

Going with last week’s Holden Ute theme we came across the following videos which are just too funny not to share.  Ironically, a female colleague who is British shared her Aussie friend’s videos with me.

Got to love the INXS soundtrack in this as some stereotypes really are just too funny not to embrace…..And to be filmed around the sacred ground of Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a nice touch.

100 Vintage Cars Discovered on French Farm Worth at least £12 million

In today’s world of Wikipedia not much is left to the imagination and certainly finding hidden treasure has become a rarity.  So this story is just so darn cool we had to cover it since as auto enthusiasts the barn find is the Holy Grail.

After calling in auctioneer’s to the family farm, the grandchildren of French transport magnate Roger Baillon discovered that the 100 dirt-covered cars that had decayed away undisturbed for decades could now be worth £12 million or more at auction.

Of course these are not your average vintage cars as they range from 1930s-1950s models from all the great European brands, such as Bugatti, Porsche, Maserati and Ferrari. Although most of the vehicles were only covered by a shed roof exposing them to the elements, two very special sports cars were hidden away in a garage. The two cars are a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider with covered headlights which is one of only 37 ever made. The second one is a 1956 Maserati A6G Gran Sport Frua.

The Collectors’ Car Department at Artcurial, a French auction house, recently discovered the incredible collection.  They will be putting up the entire collection for auction in Paris on February 6th, 2015.

‘We found ourselves overcome with emotion. Probably much like Lord Carrington and Howard Carter, on being the first person for centuries to enter Tutankhamun’s tomb,” stated Matthieu Lamoure, Managing Director of Artcurial Motorcars. “This really is a treasure. No doubt a once-in-a-lifetime discovery.”

Roger Baillon’s collection, beginning around 1950, was nearly twice as big as the number recently discovered.  One Talbot-Lago in the collection had previously been owned by Egyptian King Farouk and a Ferrari had been used in the filming of a movie with Jane Fonda. Along with the rare Maserati in this collection, Baillon had intended to build a museum with his collection. However, when things didn’t go as expected, he was forced to sell 50 of his beloved cars, and the rest of the collection was just parked and literally forgotten about until now.  Hopefully these world-class beauties will be restored to their original greatness and shared in museums around the world.

Taylor Swift Smashes an AC Cobra with a Golf Club in New Blank Space Video

Taylor Swift is not someone we tend to follow with any sort of interest but the 24-year old American superstar has just launched a new video for her Blank Space single and cars play a huge role.

In the pop idol’s new video, Taylor plays a severely hot-headed girlfriend with revenge on her mind as she runs around ruining a beautiful AC Cobra with a golf club.  Similar to many jilted lovers of the past, Taylor rages after seeing her boyfriend texting another women and the boyfriend’s classic Cobra takes the brunt of the jealousy. If you can’t stomach the entire video just click on 3:15 to get to the the car destruction.

Moral of this story – When your boyfriend cheats, you can do whatever you want to him, but please don’t touch his car especially if it is a classic!  The only good news is we are sure it is a replica since they always are but still the director should have used something less iconic.

Z Fest 2014

On a glorious Sunday in August, Team RedlineNorth headed to a very unique car show we never have actually attended before in person. This year’s Z Fest event took place at the Canadian Heritage War Museum located beside Hamilton’s International Airport which played the part of an excellent backdrop. Since after walking through the hangar filled with some of the most famous warplanes ever built you soon entered rows and rows of restored Nissans parked and shining on the tarmac.

Organized by members of the Ontario Z-Cars Association, Z Fest is an annual event here in Ontario for Z model Nissan enthusiasts to show off  their Nissan and Datsun vehicles. The event’s aim is to celebrate all Z-cars from the early Datsun models through to the current Nissan name plates and this year’s event did not disappoint. This year’s event was slightly larger than in years past since it was the 20th annual Z-Fest. While on site there was a whole array of Z-cars (Fairlady Z in Japan) from present to past including the 240z, 260z, 280zx, 300zx, the 350z, and 370z not excluding the odd G series, GTR, and Skyline.

We were lucky enough to bump into one of our local correspondents who actually covered the 2012 Z Fest event for RedlineNorth. Unfortunately for us he was not reporting from the event this year since he had his “pride and joy” entered in the show and shine. He currently owns a stunningly clean but heavily modified 1990 300 ZX Twin Turbo which is pushing over 400 HP at the wheels.

Moparfest 2014

Back in 2012, we had a great time at Southwestern Ontario’s Moparfest so we made the trek once again this past August.  With over 1600 show vehicles and over 20,000 spectators at this year’s event, Moparfest continues to be Canada’s largest all Mopar show and is a must see for any Mopar enthusiast. Started 34 years ago by a few friends with a shared love of Mopar cars the show has grown into a massive charity event that takes over the town of New Hamburg, Ontario for one weekend in August.  The annual three-day event is a fundraiser for the local community with proceeds totaling over $2.76 million dollars from the past 34 years.

Here are some amazing new and old examples of Mopar muscle and design in all their automotive glory.

In spite of some heavy rain on the Saturday we had a great time at Moparfest and we will be sure to come back once again. Selfishly, we were disappointed there were not more Dodge Ramchargers. In 2012, there were more of these beauties at the show. At some point, Team RedlineNorth is going to add one of these beasts to the fleet so we are always on the lookout for this iconic full size SUV.

The boys at Evo take a Ferrari F40 through the Swiss Alps

Having written about the infamous Ferrari F40 several times as it’s one of our all time favourite cars we could not pass on this story.  Recently, UK-based supercar reviewers Evo got behind the wheel of a beautiful Ferrari F40 for a 1000 KM drive. Starting in Zürich, Switzerland and finishing back in Britain  they were tasked with driving this supercar darling back to its wealthy English owner.  After filming themselves drive this masterpiece on some of the World’s best mountain roads it’s no wonder the average car guy/gal envies these car journalists more than life itself. Not surprisingly, getting behind the wheel of a Ferrari F40 is certainly near the top of most car folks’ bucket list.  Our only complaint about the video is they do a tad more talking than we would have liked.

De Tomaso Pantera and a Superformance Cobra

Who says classic cars are just for old guys? Well, here’s a video that may change your mind. Check out this 650 HP Pantera while it plays a little cat and mouse with a Superformance Cobra.  The performance makes me want to buy one of these classic beauties.  Since there really is no substitute in the world for the sounds of a high performance eight-cylinder engine….

Cruising Compton in a 1955 Jaguar XK140

Here’s another great classic car video from Petrolicious about Mr. Winston Dabbs, who has combined a passion for the world of British cars along with a career in automotive restoration.  Set in Compton, California, the video provides a glimpse into Winston’s 25 year romance with his regal looking 1955 Jaguar XK140.

Porsche 930

Car guys all have their favourite dream rides but one model remains on most auto enthusiasts’ list, the iconic Porsche 930.  Built between 1975 and 1989 the Porsche 930 was one of the fastest production vehicles ever produced in its time.

Porsche 930

Porsche 930

Known to the public as the Porsche 911 Turbo, Porsche originally produced the car to comply with homologation (racing series) regulations and had focused its marketing on creating a street legal race vehicle similar to the illustrious 1973 Carrera 2.7 RS. When the homologation rules changed, Porsche continued to develop the car, deciding to make it the top of the 911 model range also providing Porsche with a product to compete with Ferrari and Lamborghini.  Sure sounds like today’s Porsche GT3 models which regularly go toe-to-toe with the Italian sisters on the track.

People all over the world love Porsche and do crazy things to get their dream rides. If this video does not get you inspired about one man’s passion about the Porsche 930 we don’t think anything will.

An amazing Porsche TV ad from the 1980s….It’s a shame there was no social media back then since this video is truly a masterpiece from Porsche’s marketing team.
