This year was the 2nd year for the MegaSpeed Show and they came to play with a strong list of big name guests and legendary car personalities including; American Graffiti stars, Chip Foose, Ken Block and Formula Drift pilot Chris Forsberg. It’s no easy feat putting on a huge car show when the weather is essentially still cold and wintry. Hence, the show is held indoors in the sprawling complex made up of close to 500,000 sq. ft of exhibit space. The event draws a broad range of auto enthusiasts and provides something for everyone since the show cars span from all genres and eras of enthusiast styling.  Check out a glimpse of what the show offered and make sure you add it to your Spring calendar next year.

GYMKHANA FIVE: THE MAKING OF

One of our favourite car video series is Ken Block’s Gymkhana, which shows off the driving skills of rally car driver Ken Block as he drives through a variety of on- and off-street courses.

The latest installment in the series, released back in July 2012, is Gymkhana Five which is set in San Francisco. However, it’s just this week that the making of video for Gymkhana Five was released by Ken Block and DC Shoes.

The video provides an in depth look at the video production process, from the many hours of scouting out locations, to vehicle preparations, to takes and re-takes.

The making of video runs approximately 10 minutes and is well worth checking out even if you aren’t a rally car fan.

The original Gymkhana Five video can be found below:

Ken Block’s Gymkhana Five

For all you Ken Block and rally fans out there check out the new Gymkhana Five video from Ken Block!  Filmed over four days on the  streets of San Francisco there are some very cool scenes going both up and down the streets of this famously hilly city. The slow motion cinematography, true to form in this series, is also fantastic.

Enjoy!

Ken Block Gymkhana 5 – Out July 9th

If you have been following us for a while you know the RedlineNoth Team has an affinity for rally car driver Ken Block and his Gymkhana video series. News today that the next edition Gymkhana series, Gymkhana 5, will debut on July 9th. Similar to Gymkhana 4, the new video will be in partnership with DC Shoes. For more info the official press release is below.

JUNE 18th, 2012 – Huntington Beach, California – After much anticipation, Ken Block and DC Shoes are proud to announce the coming of Gymkhana FIVE, which will debut globally on Monday, July 9th at 10 AM EST via the DC Shoes YouTube channel. Filmed on the streets of San Francisco, California, Gymkhana FIVE builds on the previous successes of the Gymkhana viral video series and it’s 140+ million views.

“My idea for Gymkhana FIVE was simple,” said Block. “I wanted to build on the ultimate playground concept from Gymkhana THREE, and bring the franchise back to that raw and fast feel that the earlier videos had. I’ve always wanted to film a Gymkhana video in a city and there are few places as unique and iconic with such amazing topography as San Francisco. While movies like Bullit and various chase scenes have tried to use San Francisco to the fullest, I’m pretty confident that I’ve proven there was a lot left to be done on those amazing streets!”

Without question, the streets of San Francisco make Gymkhana FIVE the most unique project to date in the franchise’s history. And for good measure, a few world records and a surprise guest have been thrown in too. Making a return for the second year in a row is Block’s Ford Fiesta H.F.H.V. racecar, which can be seen slaying its tires on the streets of San Francisco globally on the July 9th release date. For select media and action sport VIPs, DC will premiere the video on Friday, June 29th during Summer X Games 18.

Ken Block Gymkhana Four – Bonus Edit

A new edit of the Ken Block Gymkhana Four video has appeared online.  Gymkhana Four was filmed as part of a DC shoes promotion.  The new edit of the video has removed the ‘Hollywood’ aspects of the video (read commercial aspects).

DC explains: “We’ve removed the “Hollywood” aspects of Gymkhana FOUR and instead placed the focus on Block’s behind-the-wheel driving precision by incorporating never-before-seen shots and all-new angles of previous shots.

The time of the video has been reduced from 9:16 to 5:11.  The result? Well you be the judge:

Well the folks over at Hot Wheels have created a replica of Block’s Fiesta and the following is a video of the RC version of the car tearing it up around Venice beach, California.

After watching the video it makes you want to go out and get one of these!

Ken Block’s Gymkhana Three – L’autodrome, France

Gymkhana events are time and/or speed events in an automobile. These can feature obstacles such as cones, tires, and barrels. The driver must maneuver through a predetermined “track” performing many different driving techniques. What separates gymkhana from traditional autocross events is that the gymkhana requires drivers to perform reversals, 180 degree spins, 360 degree spins, parking boxes, figure 8s and other advanced skills. Drifting is also encouraged where helpful or necessary. Essentially, a gymkhana is any event featuring a starting point, a finish line and some sort of “obstacle” to get through, around, or by, all within a certain time limit – Wikipedia.

The following is a video of Ken Block going through the L’autodrome in France.  His driving skills are simply amazing.
