Only in Japan…..

Petrolicious has published a cool story about Nissan’s creative advertising style in the early days around its flagship sport coupe the Nissan Skyline.  It all began in the 1970s with a young and “in love” caucasian couple exploring Japan in their new coupe. Honestly, you watch this ad now and it’s hard to believe this was ever popular anywhere but having lived in Japan at one time I understand their affinity to anything Western.

Nissan built on this 70s love theme and in the 80s embraced Paul Newman as he became the new face of the Skyline brand as a result of his racing exploits with Nissan US.

I had no idea Paul Newman hustled Skylines and I bet not many people in North America know either.  I always thought Paul Walker was the first Hollywood actor to love the Skyline. Well, you really do learn something new everyday.

Sad news today that Fast and Furious star Paul Walker has died. Walker, 40, was a passenger in a Porsche that crashed into a light pole and a tree, and then burst into flames outside L.A yesterday. Both occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.

A native of L.A., Walker rose to prominence in 2001 with the Fast & Furious franchise. He also played a number of small roles as a child actor in the 1980’s, including appearances on Charles in Charge and Who’s the Boss.

Walker was reportedly in the area of the crash to attend a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. Walker is survived by his 15-year-old daughter.

Fast & Furious 6

As a car enthusiast you are likely aware of the Fast & Furious film franchise.  Although it’s probably never going to win any Oscars, it is quite the film series for anyone interested in cars.  With its broad stroke combination of street racing, American muscle, import tuner scene along with a rich level of CGI effects it really does have it all car wise. Well, buzz is building strong as a result of the new ad from the Super Bowl about the sixth installment in the Fast and the Furious film series.

Titled Fast and Furious 6, this segment looks to have the same type of insane, carnal car action intersected with an urban, hip hop soundtrack and the same sexy actors we have come to expect with this series.  Although not scheduled to hit theaters until May 2013, we wanted to give you a sneak peek of what is coming with the film’s official three minute extended trailer seen here.
